The first looked like impressionism with a muddy palette, so I boosted the contrast to give some definition to the foreground trees. The second has no pp.

#2 for me, the tree branches and the small log on the right make it more atractive, would like the fog to be stronger so there would be nothink on the background, just the fog. but its a really nice picture

Fog is always fun, Dale, but #1 doesn't do much for me, because everything is so subdued. Even in a fog picture you need the kind of contrast you have in #2 -- something that stands out. I like #2, but I'd have worked it to put a bit more intensity in the far bank. Here's at least an approximation of what I'm getting at. It's a subtle difference, so maybe it doesn't matter a whole lot.

Appreciate the critiques. #1 does have some color, but obvious only if you stare at it for twenty minutes or so. Not worth the effort. I see the difference in intensity of the background, but can't see a difference in effect. Maybe I lack a calibrated eye. When I've both the time and inclination, I may attempt to extract the foreground and place it over dense fog. Again, thanks for looking.

The color is indeed visible in the 1st, but there is nothing to contrast the fog, ergo no subject in view that could get your attention(i find it hard to look at, gets out of focus for me).
I must say I am new to photography, but playing with fog is never simple.
The second picture is way better, I like it more, just because you caught the essence of the foggy day.
My 2 cents!

I liked the fog picture, so I pushed it and pulled it some with the attached result.

Very nice, Dale.

Bruce,
Your version is a much better picture. I doubt that I'd have ever gotten there myself, since what interested me was the mass of unfocused color simulating impressionism. However, there was simply not enough color, and/or variety of color to make that approach yield much. Maybe a brighter foggy day in autumn, should I live so long. And not least, these comments have clarified in my mind what my goal actually was.
Russ,
I'd like to accept Bruce's credit, but unfortunately the record is there for everyone to see. I'm always honest when there's a high likelihood of getting caught. :)

Oops. Well, you're still the one who saw it and shot it.
