An interesting article on the rise of the mobile/cell phone.

Hi Tom

My experience too; the cameras stay home and sleep and the cellpix get shot!

Haven't tried converting to b/w yet, but probably will later on when I get bored with playing with cellpix colour.

I have always wanted (dreamed actually) that I had a camera present with me at all times. Now that some of the point and shoot cameras equal the the technical qualityof the DSLR's (relatively speaking), and reasonably priced, I think I will purchase one and risk losing it to get photos whereever I happen to be. But I have to tell you, though in the future it may be a cell phone, as of now it is simply a high-end P/S camera that I am looking at. Interesting article.

Great arcticle.  I got a phone with a camera for the first time last summer.  As soon as I began emailing cell phone pix, I was hooked.  Instant gratification.  Compared to the DSLR, they're slow and unresponsive, but nobody complains about the image quality.  Not even me.

As the author says: suddenly, everyone's a photographer.  And that's a good thing IMHO.

Don't remember the author, but the quote is something like, "If you buy a violin you own a violin.  How come if you buy a camera you're a photographer?"

However, I have and will continue to use my cell phone camera from time to time as it's always in my pocket, even when the cameras are at home.

Only thing negative with the cellpix idea is that one does shoot a lot of crap, too, simply because it's not going to cost. Which, actually, is incorrect: my poor old computer is grinding to a halt because of the bulk of nonsense that is being tossed its way at this time! I've just transferred a load to two external HDs and will now attempt to empty the computer's own memory of much of it; hopefully, it'll feel like a spring lamb and function at a reasonably exciting speed again.

Of course, it might be something else that's slowing it down; as I could never work out the difference between the computer's memory, virtual memory and whatever kind of imaginary Force actually lurks with the thing, I fly on hope. Though I did once pay the computer shop to install additional memory, which I watched them do, I didn't really notice the slightest operational difference... however, having paid for it, I felt disinclined to go back and argue because they could have told me anything.

Maybe kind of shocking but I don't have a phone with camera, not even bluetooth, but maybe just the way I am, my main job is in computers so I don't want to worry about my cellphone being broken because of me lying down on some installation with it on my pocket. Besides don't go out that much because in here there's no chance of taking a camera outside without the worry of it being stolen, sadly that's the situation at least for now.

But that aside, for those who can go out and take pictures, the idea of a cellphone with a decent camera can be very apealing, it would for me if that where the case.
