Title: WHich method to calibrate the NEC PA271W display
Post by: Andrew Makiejewski on December 12, 2011, 01:20:20 pm
Hi everyone, have looked around and so far have not seen an answer.

The monitor is the NEC PA271W and currently the X-Rite ColorMunki Photo with it's software. Will there a visible difference between the following methods of calibrating the NEC display.

1) Using the ColorMunki Photo with the SpectraView II software
2) Getting the SV-PRoII-Kit which includes the NEC branded colorimeter and SpectraView II software

Really hoping that just buying the SpectraView II will suffice.

The second display is a Dell 2408 which will be replaced with another NEC monitor in the future.

Many thanks.

Andrew

that is what I use (CM Photo & SVII software) for my PA241.

Great results.  $89 for the SV software from NEC

I suggest you try using what you have first and see whether it does what you need. If it doesn't, then spend more money on a different solution. The NEC Colorimeter is specifically adapted for the PA271 display.

I recently purchased the PA 231,and the SVII software.
Using the colormunki to calibrate ,I'm getting excellent results.
Last week I wrote NEC to find out if the new i1pro would give me more accurate results,and here is the answer I got from Eric Ganshaw{NEC Sales}

" Mike,
It may be slightly better. I don’t know if you would be able to tell the difference. I would recommend sticking with what you have. Unless you really want to go out and spend the extra money."

Here is Erics contact info,if you need it.

These people are a pleasure to deal with....

From what I've read, your pa271W is in another league to my pa231w,so,your results.... may vary??
As of now,and until I find that the i1pro will definitively give me better results,I'm staying with the colormunki, for my calibrations

Hope this info helps...

Thanks for your responses everyone.

Now to find a place I get get it in Canada. NEC says that tigerDirect carries it, but can't find it and SoftChoice, well.....
Just check and CDW carries it, but at $116.00 plus shipping. Does anyone know why NEC will not allow a download to Canadians?

I just posted this in a different thread, but thought this would be helpful, so I''ll repeat part of it.

I was using my i1 Pro on my Eizo CE240W with the Eizo software. I tried the NEC iD2 which came with my PA301W on the Eizo, again with the Eizo software, and got a much lower Delta E, below 1.  It had been much worse with the i1 Pro.

I didn't bother trying the i1 Pro on my new NEC after those results.

Want to thank you all again for your help.

I decided to order the SpectraView II software and use my ColorMunki. Just got delivery today.

In case anyone in Canada the is looking to just buy the software, CDW carries it and the site is www.cdw.ca .
