My preference is for the first version. The branches and leaves provide a context and show that the heron is trying to look like the vegetation, and they nicely frame the bird.

Gorgeous tones and detail.

I like the first as well but thought people might like a "portrait" version as well.

Thank you, this one was quite calm and allowed me to sit and watch him feed for almost an hour.
