Sometimes you're out walking and you come across the most amazing light, and all you have is your cell phone. Whattya gonna do?

The stitched images were combined in Autopano Pro and everything was pushed around a bit in Lightroom.

But which phone? What shutter speed? What aperture? What focal length?
How can we appreciate the artistry without knowing those facts? ;)

At least, if your cell phone photos are not as good as expected, you can say it's because you need a better camera…

How can we appreciate the artistry without knowing those facts?
I'm actually looking to upgrade my phone and I decided that I do want a better camera, for both photos and even more for videos, so I would like to know which phone this is.

It's a Samsung Galaxy S Vibrant GT-i9000M (http://www.samsung.com/ca/consumer/mobile/mobile-phones/all-phones/GT-I9000HKABMC/index.idx?pagetype=prd_detail&pid=ca_home_image1_vibrant_20101126) (the original, not the Galaxy S 2). 5MP camera. Doesn't bother with trivialities like f/stops and shutter speeds! ;) Nobody's going to try making a large print out of these and the amount of data's pretty limited (although it wasn't THAT long ago that 5MP was pretty avant garde), but it's fun for web work, and otherwise all I'd have would be memories.

P.S. II, the sequel - Being an Android phone, I find these pretty handy: Photo Tools (https://market.android.com/details?id=be.hcpl.android.phototools) / Smart Tools (https://market.android.com/details?id=kr.aboy.tools) (the bubble level for example is great for leveling the tripod - assuming you calibrate it properly against a carpenter's level).

Mike, you already know the answer: shoot! The best camera is the one you have with you. I don't use my cell for photography, but I'm always carrying at least my mirrorless -- always!

My thoughts exactly. People often ask what equipment they need for ____. My question is, "What can you do with what you have?" Some genres require specific equipment, no question, but using what's on hand makes you more creative.

Its a real pity that cell phones didn't exist during the 50s-60s where the masters of photography where at their peak! They would have develop them so much by now, that using a camera would certainly be pointless. Perhaps Magnum should consider to make a "cell phone masterpiece" section.... :-X Regards, Theodoros. www.fotometria.gr
