Title: Importing via CaptureOne / Finder (any difference?)
Post by: undavide on September 18, 2011, 03:43:44 am
Hello,
is there any technical difference between importing RAWs (IQ180 digital back) from card to disc:

1) Copying the files to the chosen folder with Finder (Mac)
2) Using the Import dialog in CaptureOne

(set aside the fact that 2 takes much more time than 1)
Thanks in advance

Davide

WIth C1's import, you can apply a style, tag with metadata and rename the file using certain exif data. Moreover the files are logged into the appropriate C1 session and previews are built.  When you do the OS copy you don't get any of that.

Thank you very much Jack,
being these the differences I guess that I'll stick to the faster Finder import (it better fits my current needs)
Kind regards

It's actually not faster if you take into account the time it takes to generate previews after download.

However, if you want to dump-n-run and process later, the finder is more suited for that purpose.

Took the words right off my keyboard ;)  Seriously, once you start adding base styles and metadata tags to your imports, it's a tough habit to let go of.
