This is one of those where i'm going back and forth in deciding if the middle of the flower is a tad too dark or fine as it is. I'm leaning towards just leaving it as, either way, i'm rather happy with the picture. Any comments and criticisms are of course welcome.

I like it just as it is. The darkness adds a bit of mystery and enhances the mood, IMHO.

Seems t0 me that theres adequate detail in the dark midtones and shadows

I'd leave it...

For me too the main interest is the darker flower center. It does give a feel of mystery. However my eye is drawn quickly off that to the left side brightness and then off the image. The flower leaves (?) point nicely back to the center but the left side, especially the green color, impedes that.

Hi louoates,
Very nice.
It is difficult to get such good DoF in a close up shot like this and you have done it very well. Red is also the most difficult colour to work with, as it so easily blocks up, so again, well done. I also like the use of thirds for the placing of the centre of the flower.

Thanks for your comments!
It seems the dark center should stay. Though I must consider darkening the greens on the side. I would like to have some "tension" between the flower center and the side, but it's not good if the side has too much "pull".
