Did you install the corresponding Camera RAW update?

Andy,
Let us know what you find regarding the BreezeBrowser DNG problem. I use BB-Pro as my main photo file manager to feed files to Photoshop. I can’t get BB to display anything more than a thumbnail in the DNG file. One or the other of my settings (DNG or BB) may be wrong:
My DNG = Uncompressed, Preserve RAW Image, Don’t embed original

Also, is seems BB claims to ‘display’ DNG files, but not convert DNG. The “Convert Raw Image” Tool menu selection is grayed out when DNG image is selected.

Adobe’s DNG converter has a long long way to go. Crude and clunky is being charitable. I’ve pretty much given up on DNG until camera manufacturers (Canon) write their raw files in DNG format.

I just downloaded and installed DNG v2.4 on a Windows 2000 machine.  I converted a Canon RAW file from a D60. The conversion seemed to go fine, except for three problems.

1. The CRW image size was 3072x2048. The DNG image size is only 1024x683!

2. The EXIF data associated with the DNG file only includes half of the information in the original CRW file. It's missing, for example, subject distance, white-balance, saturation, etc.

3. Photoshop 8.0 cannot open the DNG file. I get the error message "Could not complete your request because it is not the right kind of document."

I've tried changing the PREFERENCES in DNG Converter to both COMPRESSED and not COMPRESSED: but it makes no difference.  Any ideas?

Thanks.  I thought I did, but it I guess I didn't. I re-installed the new Camera Raw plug-in, and now Photoshop CS can read the DNG file, and it is the original image size.

Now, I'll have to chase down the BreezeBrowser problem seperately.

Thanks!!!

Paul,

According to a response that I received on the Adobe DNG forum, it seems that the DNG thumbnail is 1024 wide. Apparently BreezeBrowser is displaying that thumbnail as a thumbnail, not as a full screen image (as it does with a CRW file).

I was also told on that forum that the problem with the metadata is Canon's fault.  I don't know if the poster was an authorized Adobe representative, but if this is true, it implies that DNG will not be able to convert all of the metadata in the CRW file. Regardless of who's fault that is, it would mean that DNG files are not a complete replacement for CRW files.
