Title: sacraficial canon ipf9000 - alternative ink sets for thermal printheads?
Post by: a.lorge on August 26, 2011, 10:30:05 pm
Hi.

I have a canon ipf9000 that is sitting around.. rarely used.  A couple of colors are just about empty and I really don't see the point in spending $$$ on new inks once they run out.  Has anyone ever come across an alternative ink set that works with thermal inkjet printers?  Seems like all the entertaining ink sets (dye sublimation, textile inks, etc.) only work with piezo printers.  Any ideas?  The only thing I've come up so far is to start swapping in 3rd party inks and run absurd media through it like inkaid coated burlap or something along those lines.  Any ideas appreciated.  Open to experimentation here.

There must be a customer for a sale of the iPF9000, could turn out to be a more profitable solution to have him print your 9000 jobs than do it yourself. Image Specialists should have the alternative inks, they cover the 3 brand's pigment printers. Whether the inks keep their properties in time (pigment settling!) as good as OEM inks is doubtful though and that counts if the printer stands often idle.
