It's a lovely capture, Rajan. The other Puffin shots on your site are also wonderful, although I more enjoyed the "Puffin Love" shot (even sans the golden light), as you managed to capture interaction between two birds, which I don't recall seeing very often in other folks' shots.

The warm, golden light is perfect and makes the shot. The "Puffin Love" image, on your website, is my favorite!

Lovely.

I am quite jealous as I did not get anywhere near as close to Puffins on my trip to Iceland. In fact, I only saw them once while motoring out of the bay on a whale watching cruise; an that was at quite a distance (to far for even my 300mm with 1.4 X). I am hoping to have better luck with the Puffins on my trip to Iceland next July and August 2012. I did see Puffin on the menu in a couple of restaurants.. but I just couldnt go there - they are way too cute  ;D

Again - Lovely shot.

Josh,

I got there very early in the season when the puffins are relaxed.  As the summer wears on they tend to get stressed with all the tourist traffic (and the photographers).  See this -

These are much nicer than any of the puffins I got in my only trip to Iceland in 1974.

I remember well that it was fun to watch them take off from the side of the cliff. With their stubby wings flappy madly, they would start dropping like a stone, but then soon level out and go on flying. A flyign Puffin looks as if it couldn't possibly fly more than a hundred meters or so, but they actually migrate huge distances.

I really enjoy all your Iceland shots, Rajan!
