Quentin,

I almost went there Saturday. I didn't jump on Michael's Moosorama because I knew I would be in the UK (Reading) on business. Saturday I had one day to myself. I chose Windsor instead of Oxford. Next trip: Oxford.

My pictures aren't yet processed to my liking, but I will find this thread at the end of the week and post a link. Mostly the castle exterior, River Thames, and Eton College.

Prior to viewing your "expedition" photos, I had no idea the sun ever shone in England. I stand meterologically contrite.

Looks like you had a lot of fun. We sometimes forget that for those of us who make our living at lesser occupations, photography IS supposed to be fun.

thanks for sharing,

Mike Sebastian

Thanks to Quentin and Bob both for posting the links to some very enjoyable galleries.  There is a lot of spirit in all those photos.

Bob, I admire the layout of your galleries.  I see you use smugmug to host your photos.  Did it require much effort to design your particular gallery layout or were you able to do it with the standard layout tools provided by smugmug?  Are you generally pleased with the smugmug service?

John
John,

Thanks. Other than the custom banner and footer (just static html tables), everything else is standard selectable SmugMug stuff. I have been very pleased with the SmugMug package. I use the $99/year professional package because I can personalize (although all I did was the banner and footer) and markup print sales (but that isn't really anything anyone is beating down the door for).

Andreas,

Thanks - yes some enhancement, mainly saturation.  Not all the pics are mine, but the blue boats shot is.  Maybe some of the colours are a tad OTT (bit like the five of us, actually).  Were meeting up again in June at my place, so if you're really unlucky we may inflict more damage on your optic nerves then      I'm off to the Lake Disctrict in Cumbria tomorrow to exercise my large format camera for the first time in about a year.  Should be fun...

While Michael and co travel to exotic locations globally, Some friends and I trundled to Oxford (England) for a day trip and one of the participants, talented photographer Jono Slack, has posted a handful of the pics taken by esch of the five participants at:

http://www.slack.co.uk/Places2005/Oxford/index.html (http://www.slack.co.uk/Places2005/Oxford/index.html)

(who took what is only apparent if you click on a thumbnail)

This was not a serious photo shoot, but it was a lot of fun.  Don't view if use of F-mount cameras offends (everyone used Kodak or Nikon D2x SLR's).

Quentin

What I like a lot is that the spirit of playful fun comes through in many of the images. Sounds like a great outing, Quentin!

I'm glad the fun came through, because that was the objective.  Most of the time photography is quite a solitary, introspective activity - but not in Oxford  :D   We had a blast.

As promised, "postcards" from England. My alternative to the Moosorama...

Windsor: River Thames & the Castle (http://boku.smugmug.com/gallery/520624)
Windsor: Eton College (http://boku.smugmug.com/gallery/520588)
Reading: St. Mary's Church (http://boku.smugmug.com/gallery/520579)

Not as much fun, but rewarding for a novice.

You should go there again. The crowds got intense on the Saturday before the Bank holiday. OK by me, I seldom shoot during mid-day anyhow.

Like I said, I plan to visit Oxford on my next trip (in about 2 months). I'm working my way up to London slowly.

Quentin -

great photos - I liked the one with the two blue boats most...

though I find some pictures are a little too vivid - did you
digitally "enhance" them?!

no criticism - just worrying about the print space :)

Andreas.
