Post by: Esben on July 01, 2011, 12:00:30 am
Nikon Super Coolscan 9000ED incl. Nikon FH-835S 35mm strip film holder, and Nikon FH-869GR 120/220 film rotated film holder with glass.

New price US$3200

Newly serviced by Nikon USA. Please see attached invoice.

This scanner is in perfect working order and appears in mint condition. Its been serviced by Nikon USA in November 2009.
I bought the scanner for a job that never happened. I got it serviced but never got to use it. It’s been stored for the last year in an airtight sealed bag with silica gel for optimal conditions.

Included is the FH-869GR 120/220 glass film holder in as-new condition, which can be used to scan film up to 6 x 9 (56.9 x 83.7mm) which will generate a 8,964 x 13,176 pixel TIFF file. When the FH-869GR appears on Ebay it often goes for up to $300.00

Also included is the Nikon FH-835S 35mm strip film holder and the latest version of Nikon’s scanner software for both PC and Mac.

The scanner will be shipped in its special shut-down travel mode, to prevent misalignment of the lenses inside the scanner.
Shipping and handling by UPS in the lower 48 states $80.00
For International shipping $200

Can this scan 617s or 4x5?

The included FH-869GR film holder can hold 120/220 film up to 83mm in length.
On page 54 in the Nikon manual (please see link in listing), they mention a FH-869G glass film holder that can take 1-2 frames of 6x7 or 6x9. I haven't used this holder myself.

B&H has it in stock for $249.95:
http://www.bhphotovideo.com/c/product/218836-REG/Nikon_9241_FH_869G_120_220_Strip_Film.html

If you scroll down in the Customer Reviews on the B&H page, someone mentioned that it works perfectly for 6x12 slides.

Hope this helps.

I have scanned 6x6 and 6x7 on it with the holder mentioned above.  The problem is getting the film in there and getting it flat and in the right position.  This scanned works fantastic for slides as the holder has clasps to hold the slide in the right spot, but for medium format, it's just trial and error (and frustration).  That said, it is a pretty frickin cool scanner.

Can this scan 617s or 4x5?

Yes, it can scan 617s (but not 4x5) however it divides a 617 in half and you must stitch it together (which is not too difficult). It is difficult to scan film without getting Newtonian Rings. I got around the NR problem by wet scanning. Nonetheless, this is a fantastic scanner and I regularly print 38x48 (from film that I scanned with it).

Kind regards,

Esben,

Can't buy it as import duties to the UK would add another 29% (and I've recently bought the 8000 version) but this will act as a 'bump'.

For others info the special Nikon holder included with this great scanner does hold the film perfectly flat as it use glass to keep the film flat with ANR glass to remove those pesky rings.

Good luck with the sale - over here they are fetching GBP2500 or around $4100 with that holder and not even recently serviced!!

The LL Forum is a predominately digital user forum. The seller would have better luck at a film based forum like APUG, Rangefinder forum, and the like. I would like to see you find one for less.

I sold a Nikon 9000 a few weeks ago, and the buyer got an excellent scanner for much less than they generally go for on ebay.  This scanner is very similar to mine, and I think it's a good price.  It really is a matter of supply and demand, and for medium format film photographers this scanner is very hard to beat.  One can buy a cheaper flatbed that won't come close to producing the quality scan as the 9000, or one can buy a much more expensive Imacon.

There is still considerable demand for 9000s and a very limited supply. The asking price is reasonable and reflects the going rate for these scanners.  Sellers are asking almost $7 k for new ones:

Hi there...
Do you have any samples of scans that you could please email me... ? ? ?
Or perhaps post online somewhere ?
I shoot 120, and am getting sick of what the labs are charging for their "high resolution" scans... still pretty ordinary if you ask me... nobody is printing at reasonable pricing from negs out here in australia that I can find... and I would love the flexibility of being able to edit in post with PS..
Tossing up the differences in a digital back, and a scanner...
Anyone wanna make any suggestions here ?
As I am unfamiliar with scanning, I would appreciate any honest answers people are willing to share !!!

Cheers
Rich.

It's strange that all sources agree that Nikon Scan 4 software doesn't run on OSX Leopard. I've been using Nikon Scan 4 last week on Snow Leopard without any problems. You would think it would be the same.

On Windows 7 the OS auto downloaded the driver from Lasersoft.
No idea if this happens on MACs as well.
