I don't get it.
Is it the Spanish exception or what?
Why renting an Arri Alexa plus costs here about 900€/day and the Red One Mysterium X 450€ ?
Because it does not seem to me that the Red is 1/2 worse than the Arri...
Do you see the same prices in your conutries?

There are vastly more RED's made and available. Look at the rental price for an Epic - they're very high due to currently low availability.

Thanks Graeme.
Bloody hell! I forgot the basics of market economy: offer-demand. ::)
Silly thread I lauched.
Talking about Red, the Epic is a real bomb. At the moment it is impossible to get one here, neither a 5D2 neither a GH2...

The lack of product availability on a world-wide basis is a story that no one is talking about.
We'll have an article on it next week.

More Epics are going out daily - I'm starting to see a lot more shot on them. According to Arri there's a 5 month wait for an Alexa if you order one now.

Sweet. After the first day of Reducation, I went back to my hotel and hit the "M Inquiry" button :)

Red and Arri are both great, but I think the time and "energy" saved on working with prores files coming out directly from the Alexa is priceless.
Few hundred bucks more of rental for several hours saved of pain, I think that balance very well.
not mentioning the Alexa footage can be ingested, cut and color corrected on a last generation MacBook pro instead of a nuclear power plant.

zlocan, you should try out the Davinci R3D support - it's very fast indeed. For most high end workflows you'd be transcoding out of prores anyhow.
