I've heard a number of different things regarding the Unsharpen mask option scanning in Flexcolor. The general consensus is that it oversharpens. I've heard that a good setting is somewhere between -60 to -100. I've also been told to keep Flextouch at 50 and the color noise filter at "0", but on. Are there any other settings/techniques you'd recommend when scanning with a Flextight X5? Any information would be appreciated. Thanks

I haven't a clue about Flextight - never used one. But let me ask a question and make a suggestion anyhow: The question: when was the last time they up-dated their sharpening technology in that software? The suggestion: as a trial proposition, try downloading a free demo of Phokit Sharpener 2.0. Don't do ANY sharpening in the scanner software. Scan the image, open it Photoshop, launch PK Sharpener Pro, then try a range of the umpteen sharpeners in that application. You may just find that you have more control and get better results doing it that way. What's more, it's completely reversible, whereas once you bake a sharpening into a scan its locked - if you don't like it you need to rescan, always a pain.

As far as I know, there is no way to turn USM off in Flexcolor (still). The only way to defeat the built in sharpening is to set it to a -120. That setting effectively turns it off.
Then you can do capture sharpening in your other application of choice (I tend to use PKS2 but hey, that's me–and ye I am involved in PixelGenius :~)

Jeff is right, though I prefer to do a touch of capture sharpening in Flexcolor and final in PK
