This is totally awesome!
Not only the composition - but the colors are so great here and contrasting with the subdued sky.
I hate to ask - but do I see some banding or were the transitions between the colors that sharp?

The sharp transitions are best seen in the largest of the images.

Thank you. and thank the "bubbleman"

the light at 6:30 AM was really quite stunning. It added a very special "dimension" to the scene.

Ive never seen these bubbles take the light to such great advantage

 He told me as there'd been a lot of wind recently,  he was counting on the air being a bit more "still" at that time of day.

Im fairly certain that I was more interested than "the bubbeman" , in the sort of light that we were getting that early in the morning

It's splendid abstraction, Michael. Too bad the Bauhaus isn't still around. You could join the group and become famous overnight.

Jeremy, it's easy to work it out: you hold your hands apart like this, then count the number of equal segments that they have to be moved across the wider part of the vision from side to side; simple maths. It even helps with lenses. I discovered that with my right arm outstretched and two fingers held up as in the Victory sign, that the width of a 300mm image is exactly marked by the space at the top of the stretched fingers. Much better than carrying a card cut-out; not much use when you want to use a wider lens, but still helpful when you are trying to figure what a 600mm would cover... useful, too, for a 500mm mirror as there's not much difference measured like that. A fine example of rule of thumb.

Id guess that particular bubble was anywhere between 4 and six foot wide, I didnt capture much of it's length so that would be harder to ascertain from what is visible in the photograph.

Michael, As Casey said, "You could look it up." Here's the Wikipedia article: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Bauhaus. An awful lot of what we see nowadays in abstract art started with seeds from the Bauhaus. The Nazis wiped it out, calling its products "degenerate art," but the principals emigrated to Chicago and carried on with their "degenerate art."

I can think of no other subject that offers both the challenges and the breadth of light that these bubbles "offer".
