Title: HP Utility Color Center cant create profile
Post by: Robert Good on June 03, 2011, 09:55:36 am
Has anyone had this issue in the HP Utility?
Select the:
Paper preset tab;
Calibrate paper option (Once you select the calibrate paper or profile paper options, the dialog briefly appears, then vanishes. This leaves no current opportunity to calibrate or profile paper.) The utility is finding the printer. The software is completely functional besides the issue previously stated.

I rebooted the printer and the computer system with no success in solving the situation. The most frustrating part is I have solved this issue in the past, but cannot remember the solution... argghhhh

Windows 7 64
HP Utility (Version 1.13.3.4)

The same thing happens to me, although I'm on Windows XP.

My workaround has always been to import a Paper Preset (.oms file) in the Color Center tab (even though that preset has already been successfully loaded on the Z). This action has always had the effect of restoring full functionality (albeit, briefly) to the Create New Paper Preset and Paper Preset Management tabs in the HP Utility.

The workaround is time-dated, however; in a few days you will have to reload another Paper Preset to restore full Color Center functionality. So, as soon as it is up and working, I always export my Paper Presets and ICC presets (just so I can re-import them later).

BTW, I've reformatted my hard-drive at least 5 times and have never been able to utilize the HP Utility without this workaround.

Thank you for the reply jasdown. Unfortunately your solution did not work in my situation. :(

I have just started experiencing this problem. The issue also appears if you select Install Profile in the Color Center. Damn HP's flaky software! Mostly my problems with the Color Center are resolved with a full reboot of the Z3200, but not this time.

Robert, did you get this resolved?

No. I am still trying to figure out what may have caused this lack of functionality.

Well, I may have good news for you. The problem appears to be caused by installing IE9. If you have done this recently, then you will have to remove IE9, a process that works a little differently from other program uninstalls: first, go to Control Panel/Programs and select View Installed Updates at the top left. Then scroll down to Internet Explorer 9, select it, and uninstall. Finally, reboot your computer; IE8 will be available as before. Now, Printer Utility should function correctly once more.

Incidentally, Microsoft have a toolkit to prevent automatic installation of IE9 as an update here (http://bit.ly/gcwJSb).

Hope this helps!

I keep my print workstation off the internet most of the time just to avoid problems like these. And I use Comodo free firewall so anything that tries to install in the background has to get permission. Stops all the Windows and software background activity nonsense from mucking up my rig.

Peter,

thanks a lot for you above manual! You really saved my life! I had to print a large panorama for a client, but firstly I needed an update of an outdated ICC profile. HP Color Center was driving me mad not to show up the necessary dialogs. Now, having followed your instructions everything is as it has to be / was before.
