Jennifer, your first one's a classic in all senses of the word, from observation to execution.
The second one is creepy (for me) because of something that happened this morning. I had some time to kill between buying in vegetables and fruit for the next few days and going to eat at my usual menu del dia spot. I elected to go to the 1550, an internet café bar that is quite popular; today, the entire pavement outside was taken up by teenagers, mostly girls making their first ventures this year into summer clothes. The noise was amazing. I usually sit inside, watching whatever is on the tv - mainly news. Inside, today, was also full of youth, and by the time I'd managed to buy my coffee, but a single couple of kids remained.
Sitting at my table, wishing I'd a Leica and a 90mm, I observed the earnest young couple, the constant smiles (mainly on his face) and the beauty of the moment. (Innocent, I have no way of knowing, but it looked that way at that time.)
It brought back the ealy 50s, the local caf near the school, and my own young sense of excitement, hope and curiosity. It also made me think of that old French one: Si jeunesse savait et vieillesse pouvait.
Lunch was an anticlimax of watered wine.

Jennifer, They're both splendid shots. I'm sorry to hear about your mobility problems and I hope your docs find a way to solve them soon. At 81 I have enough osteoarthritis problems at least to get an inkling of what you're up against. Eventually I may reach the point where I have to shoot sunsets through my window too, but I'm going to fight it as long as I can. Hang in there. Most of your street shots are exceptional. They're certainly a delightful relief from lame landscapes.

I like both of these very much indeed. They have structure and form which is missing from so much so-called "street" photography, evidenced by an instinctive grasp of good composition. The B/W is also top notch, with a lovely sparkle and "pop" despite the overcast and wet conditions, which is very hard to do.

Just struck me: my original post might have been construed to imply I only like the first shot. Not at all, they are both bloody good. The shine from the rain would make even the horror of matt paper fail to kill the effect. The second one had a different initial appeal because of my experience today with collective youth, and a specific lad who looked surprisingly like the kid here.

So much of what is referred to as 'street photography' fails to work as anything more than a recording of how it was at the time the shutter was tripped. These two transcend that, and are simply well composed, well exposed photographs, irrespective of claims to one genre or another. Excellent work.
