Title: At the Outflow

Late evening light on the outflow of a small river.  This is my favorite time of day to shoot water.

The first is particularly beautiful. Was it really quite as blue as it appears?

Great shots!
On the second you could completely crop away the horizon and stuff.
Its the water in the foreground which rocks the image.
Just my 2 cts.

I like them both a lot, but the second one best, especially for the light on the water in the lower right corner.

I like the second one very much, the first one looks a bit unnatural to me (cannot describe why, however); I could do without the horizon on both of them.

Thanks much for the comments.  Feedback is always useful.  The color is one of the interesting things about light at this time of day however I did have a polarizer on to get the sheen on the water where I liked it.  I shot both of these with horizon in and horizon out compositions and ended up liking the horizon in on both of them.  I have both versions so I'll shelve them for a while and come back with a fresh eye.  I often change my mind.

I like #2 a lot. But I love it when I crop it to just above the rocks on the left, leaving the main interest point the lovely water sheen bottom right. The sky above simply subtracts from the truly beautiful capture below.

Here is the other composition on the 2nd one without the horizon.  It feels a bit top heavy to me.

I prefer the earlier version, with the horizon.

This is interesting.
Now, that the horizon is gone I have the impression something is missing, though I wanted it cropped before.
Maybe cropping it partly, just above the hills and not totally would be the best solution - just to get rid of the distracting clouds.
Probably the horizon worked as a sort of frame on the upper side, which is now missing.
Cropping a bit from the left I think was a good idea to keep the aspect ratio not too wide.

Having the horizon in the images shows the rocks as part of the scene. Without the horizon it is an image of a bunch of rocks. Also the scale of the rocks are defined by the horizons? The originals are landscapes and the latter images are just boring without any meaning. Ironically what would the reaction have been if only the images posted were the ones without the horizon. Having choices hasn't helped? :-\

Initially I thought that removing the horizon would be a good idea but after having seen the cropped version, I also think that the uncropped image is best. Sometimes, good ideas are that good in the end…
