Title: Mineral Bottom Rd. Re-Opens & New Day Use Permits at Canyonlands NP
Post by: bretedge on March 05, 2011, 09:24:28 am
Hey folks,

If you're planning a trip to Moab and Canyonlands NP this spring there are a couple of things you might be interested to know.

First, Mineral Bottom Road re-opens on March 29, 2011!

Second, there's a new day use permit required for sections of Canyonlands. You can find more information about the permits on my blog (http://blog.bretedge.com/2011/03/05/canyonlands-national-park-mineral-bottom-road-update/).

Hope this information is helpful!

Hi Bret,
Do you know the reason behind the requirement for the day use permits?

It sounds like they're going to be doing some road and/or environmental work in the area and they're trying to ascertain traffic levels while increasing worker safety.  Honestly, I'm not sure how a permit system will accomplish the goal of keeping workers safe since there is no cap on how many permits will be issued each day.  But, that's what I'm able to get out of the information I received.
