I can vouch for these. You can get to Chattanooga TN and around Highlands and Frankin NC within a couple of hours of Atlanta as well. Lots of waterfalls around Highlands on NC Hwy 64 (I think).

Try Stone Mountain, which is in the ATL area.

I liked the waterfalls at High FAlls State Park, which is on the intersate as you head south towards Macon.
