Title: Where to go in Tokyo and surrounding areas in late April?
Post by: futura on January 21, 2011, 04:21:29 am
Hi all,

I'm off to Tokyo for 6 days in April and was wondering if any locals or previous travellers could recommend. I already have Yudanaka (to see the snow monkeys - or at least just bathing monkeys in May) and Hakone for Mt Fuji background shots. Hopefully there will also be a sumo tornament of some sort. Any other recommendations for locations reachable as day trips from a Tokyo base would be great!

The Fukiji fish market is a fantastic place to photograph. You need to go really early to catch the action. Ask around, I don;t remember the best time but it's 5 AM or something like that (good for jet-lagged travelers who are up early anyway). You can also have breakfast at one of the small restaurants that cater to the workers.

Also, the Imperial Palace offers great gardens and architecture. The Ginza at night is fine if you like neon signs.

Thanks Peter. I will definitly need to make a visit back to Fukiji fish market as the last time I went, I could find any of the sushi bars in the market. Will add the Imperial Palace to my list of places to vist.
