Title: Dock workers cleaning ship belly: A PostProd experiment
Post by: Christoph C. Feldhaim on November 13, 2010, 02:12:38 pm
This a b/w conversion from a Kodachrome with somewhat problematical tones: the foreground was quite underexposed, the background near white. After some twiddleing I decided to b/w convert it and do some individual tone adaptions using various layers and a lot of masks I was painting on. Its from my Istanbul series, but I post in in its own thread because its something different and a first attempt.
As a reference I added the relatively unaltered original Kodachrome scan.

Chris, Interesting stuff. Looks as if it came out of the late 1800s, maybe from the Titanic's birthplace at Belfast. Trying to deal with those tones must have been a bear, and it still isn't quite right. Some Upoint adjustments in Silver Efex Pro would help.
