Pocket Wizards are a good solution; another option to look at is the Wein Safe Sync. The 6 volt limit for external flash sync connections is mentioned in the camera manual (with a warning about shutter damage if th limit is exceeded), which is why even real men need to read such things. The 1-series bodies have much more robust internal circuitry to deal with such things, though using Pocket Wizards or equivalent can prevent camera lockups if there are power surges on the AC circuit powering the strobes.

I am going to go buy the 20D and have the 10D as a back up.

Just sometimes ya forget the pocket wizards at home and the cord is the only option and I think this caused my camera to burn out once.

Hello and thank you for a great site and reviews.
 
I have had my 10D for just over a year and in that year my shutter has been replaced two times. I was never told about the power discharge from a studio power pack to the PC terminal.
 
What do you know about this and have you heard of anything that we should have on the terminal as a voltage regulator.
 
I use pocket wizards since I have it back from the cannon head office repair shop in Canada.
 
So I question the PC terminal and the voltage.

The 10D sync contacts are rated for less than 10 volts DC. The 20D sync contacts improved that to something like 50 volts. I am probably off on these numbers from poor recall but you get the picture. You have to be careful with the 10D. Know that your strobe trips very low (Alien Bees do), use the Pocket Wizard (always a better way to go anyhow), or get the Wien safe sync like Jonathan said.
