Title: LR-3 Video is great, but I needed a better road map
Post by: vaphoto on September 24, 2010, 07:44:55 pm
I had a hard time keeping track of all the downloads with zip numbers, lesson numbers, develop numbers and print numbers. So here is a PDF I put together to help me. I hope it is helpful to others.

Many thanks for this! It is much simpler & clearer than my overly detailed Table of Contents. If it's OK with you, I will add it to the PDF along with the ToC.

Yes, it is a great accessory. I have printed it to use as a checklist for which segments I've watched. And the blank right side is a good place to write down the keyboard shortcuts as Jeff and Michael mention them.

I've been using all versions of LR since the first, and at about a third of the way through this tutorial I have learned a huge number of useful tricks that I would never have guessed or discovered on my own.

Thank you Michael and Jeff and Chris and Bob!

Let me add my thanks for this TOC also. I have printed out a copy to hang on the wall next to my desktop computer and another copy to put in my laptop case for reference.

I have used LR since version 1 and considered myself very will aquainted with LR-3 when I finally broke down and ordered the LR-3 tutorial, as I have the other tutorials, and thought there might be something new in this one that I might learn. Every segment has shown me something new that I didn't know about. If I had known the depth to which this tutorial went and my lack of knowledge I would have ordered when it first came out.

Bob's spreadsheet has been added to the first page of the latest Table of Contents (http://media.luminous-landscape.com/video/tutorials/lr3/lr3-toc_09.pdf).
Again - many thanks Bob!

Zipping these binary files yields only about a 10% compression factor.

The total of the files (after unzipping) is about 5 GB.  Thus for about 500 mb of extra bandwidth used we would not have had all the confusion, unzipping, deleting of the zip files, etc.

For future reference, my own vote would be to forego the zipping.

[But I'm still a happy customer, don't get me wrong!]

Two factors here Bob:

- the shopping cart requires zip files

- it would have been better organized if I had waited two months for the final edits and numbers but we were already fairly 'late to market' and thus opted for a Pre-Publication release. However, I had no idea how many video files there would finally be. All products in the cart have to be defined absolutely at the get-go; no files may be added. I guessed at 40 video/zip files but found myself with too few about half way through the edit.... c'est la vie

FWIW, I very much appreciated the early release of the videos as it helped me with a live project. Excellent work!

cheers, martin
