Title: Z3100: What folder(s) have custom paper?
Post by: walter.sk on July 10, 2010, 12:05:36 pm
I'm running my Z3100 from a Win7 64-bit machine, with the ethernet connection.  I have been using the Vista driver with a few problems but I have been able to print.  I had to change my DSL modem, and the new one reassigned the URL for the printer.  I found that the only way to use the printer was to remove it from the Devices & Printers dialogue and then reinstall the printer.  When asked by the Wizzard I opted to use the same driver, and thought the reinstall was successful, as the Printer Utility (latest version) is now able to locate the printer and report the status of the inks and heads.

When I went to print, the HP driver had lost all of my custom papers as well as all of my custom paper sizes.  Running the Color Center I was unable to sync my custom papers between the printer and computer.  Instead, the Color Center dialogue kept churning away and finally stopped responding.  I really don't want to have to recalibrate and profile all of my custom papers because of the waste of ink, paper and time unless it becomes absolutely necessary.

It would help if I could find a way to access the hard drive on the printer to see what is there.  I also could transfer things manually if I knew what folder on the computer's hard drive has the paper presets for my custom papers.  Any help with that would be greatly appreciated.

Thank you gain, HP.

Strange!

Even though I had been keeping up with the (infrequent) firmware updates for the Z3100, in doing a new upgrade to the HP-APS software I received a message that my firmware was not the current version.  Hope alive again, I went to the HP website for my printer and Windows 7, but there was no listing for firmware for it.  I then re-downloaded the Vista 64-bit firmware and it successfully installed on my printer.  Oddly, the LCD on the printer listed the same firmware number it had before!  TR12PS_7.0.0.3,  PS 3017.102-02.95R, OS TR-2.0.11.

However, upon the printer's rebooting, the Color Center swept into action, with the message "Completing the synchronization of paper presets" or something to that effect.  Now, opening the printer driver I found all of my old custom papers!

Go figure!
