Title: Hiding
Post by: wolfnowl on May 31, 2010, 05:14:33 pm
I just watched this YouTube video (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=WUdE1kqfJHU) on CS5's new blend modes - 'Subtract' and 'Divide'.  Thought I'd try it out.  This one began with the 'Subtract' blend mode, then added a few layers and finished up in Lightroom 3 Beta 2.

Mike.

Mike, I take it you have CS5? I will have to break down soon and buy it, since some new features are really helpful in eliminating some small amounts of extraneous elements in otherwise excellent images. The blend mode is another good feature if you have an otherwise good image. Good simple video.

Mike. Very good! That's my kind of picture. I'm still in the process of moving my office to my new studio, but combined with that move I bought an Epson Stylus Pro 3880 and a new 64 bit screamer of a Dell with dual disks so CS5 can have a separate scratch disk, and 12 gig of memory. I have CS5 on the shelf, ready to be installed on the new machine once it arrives and I have time to set it up. All that's pretty exciting. Can't wait to try the new blend modes. Thanks for the YouTube reference.

Mike,

Could you post a "before" image for comparison? Your final image is quite convincing. I'd love to see what you started with to get it.

Hi There:

John:  I've been trying CS5 on a 30-day trial, which is about to run out.  Worth it, I'd say.

Eric: I added the 'before' picture to the original post.

Thanks,
Mike.

Mike,

I think I'd like something somewhere between your original and the final version. I say that having not yet played with blending modes at all.

I upgraded to CS5 recently and have only played a little with the "content aware fill", which will save me lots of time that I used to spend on the clone stamp.

There do seem to be lots more new goodies in CS5 than in the previous few upgrades. It'll take some time to learn all the useful new tricks.

Eric

Mike, I think I agree with Eric - somewhere in between.
