Title: Eric Myrvaagnes / B&W Special Issue
Post by: Patricia Sheley on May 25, 2010, 11:38:12 pm
Three of Eric's Plum Island Sand series have made their way into the portfolio issue of B&W Mag. Hope I am able to get a look at these up close and personal at some point...Each of the three have elements that keep me trying to look more closely...Nice to see them in B&W Mag Eric....Pat

Thank you, Pat and Mike.

I'm still waiting for my issues to arrive so I can see which ones they chose. LuLa seems well-represented in this issue.

Cheers,

Eric

Congratulations, Eric!  You do some fine work.  (I especially enjoy your Italian photos, BTW.)

Any chance you could post small versions of one or two of your Plum Island Sand photos here, for those of us who don't subscribe to the magazine?

Thanks, Lisa.

I'll post a few here as soon as I get a copy so I can see which ones they chose.

Add my congratulations as well - I've heard of this magazine but I've never seen it. Does anyone know if it's available in England?

Brilliant news, Eric.  I'd love to see some of the work here too - not sure if the mag can be got here in Ireland

I saw that one and it whetted my appetite. I'm eagerly looking forward to Chuck's and Michael's ("Phillyphotographer's") images as well as my own.
I still haven't seen the issue, but the ones I have seen have been quite handsome with excellent reproduction quality.

Thank you Jeremy, Seamus, John, and Russ.

@Russ: How did you get your copy so fast?

Eric, I don't know. It simply arrived in my mailbox. I've been so overwhelmed with the move I'm in the middle of that it was a day or two before I even got a chance to open it.

Got mine today. Glad to see that, for my spread, they chose different pix than ran in Lenswork. Hate to be pigeon-holed, ya know.

Both Michael's and and Eric's pages were really nice. Even Russ was involved as he had a...gasp...landscape photo in an ad.

Russ, a landscape??? How many people were in it?

I bet it wasn't cropped.

Eric, Well, it was a landscape with the hand of man in it. No people though, just the artifact they left behind from the turn of last century. You'd win your bet. It wasn't cropped. In the next B&W I'll have an ad with an abstract. No people in that one either.

Darn. I'm going to have to subscribe just to see your ads.

Congrats!

I'll have to see if Borders has the issue.  Are the images from this gallery?  http://myrvaagnes.com/SandG/index.php (http://myrvaagnes.com/SandG/index.php)

Thanks Dark,

They probably are. Most of the ones I submitted are in that gallery, but there are four that aren't up on the website yet. I'll post the ones they chose here once I get a copy. I'm told that the issue should be on newsstands "the first week of June." My local Borders does carry B&W, as does our local Barnes and Noble.

I found an issue yesterday at Borders. Here are my three, on pages 176 and 177:

Russ Lewis will have a multi-page spread in an upcoming issue.

Cheers,

Eric

Congratulations, Eric!  Thanks for posting them here.  It's perhaps a defect of mine, but I've never had much of an appreciation for abstract photography of that sort.   Still, they're kinda interesting anyway compared with most (IMO), and very well done.

I love your May "Print of the Month", by the way.     Keep it up!

Thanks, Lisa.

As for the May "Print of the Month", I plan to start a new series of bizarre, surrealistic, Photoshop-heavy constructions (the new gadgets in CS5 will help), but I'll keep on with mountains and landscapes as well.

Cheers,

Eric

Bravo!

Thank you, Jack. Be sure to check out other LuLa-ers on pages 152-153 (Chuck Kimmerle), pages 140-141 (Eric W. Hiss) , and pages 182-183 (Michael Penn). Chuck and Michael have both been featured in Lenswork, too, and their work in B&W is much different from what they have shown in Lenswork.

And Russ Lewis will be having a bigger spread in the "Spotlight" section of a future issue this year. In the Portfolio 2010 issue he has an ad on page 230, right next to an ad with a photo by some guy named Cartier-Bresson (who, of course, is not as good a photographer as Russ since he doesn't visit the LuLa Forum very often).

Eric,

Did you realise that, at a quick glance, "pom" looks very much like "porn"? Just at thought. I wouldn't like anyone to be disappointed.

Ironic: I have long ceased to buy the magazine, mainly because of what I perceived as rapacious marketing techniques, but well remember their angst lo those years ago when deliberating whether or not to accept the inclusion of the digital print within the hallowed  pages of the publication...

Ostriches come to mind - they used to farm them here for a short while, but many lost their shirts on such silly ventures.

Jeremy,

I'll have to put you in charge of supplying images for the "porn" page.
