Title: Sony's 35mm PL mount camcorder
Post by: BJL on April 16, 2010, 10:42:07 am
The photo in the April 14 "What's New" needs a new caption. It is clearly of a 35mm PL mount camcorder, with an ARRI PL mount lens attached, not an "Alpha camcorder". Sony has said nothing about Alpha mount in its preview of this forthcoming camera, never use the wording "full 35mm" or "full frame 35mm" that several web-sites have mistakenly used in reporting the news, and Sony's 35mm digital movie camcorders are consistently in a cinema 35mm format with frame width a bit under 25mm wide. This is what you get get when a 35mm wide strip of film is run vertically through the camera or projector, and is quite simply, what "35mm format" has always meant in the moving picture world.

See for example this Wikipedia article (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/35_mm_film), or to see what Sony means when it says "35mm" when talking about camcorders, see what Sony says about its two 35mm format CineAlta models announced so far, the F35 (http://pro.sony.com/bbsc/ssr/product-F35/) and SRW-9000PL.
