Title: Valley of Fire
Post by: didger on November 06, 2004, 10:10:10 pm
There was another thread about this location a while back.  There were quite a few responses, so search for it.
I'd say that just one day is very short for this area.  I spent several days and that was way too little.
There's no problem being there alone.  You can get anywhere you want without needing to resort to technical climbing moves.
The shooting is great everywhere and I wouldn't limit myself to what anyone suggests.  Just check it out.  It'll blow ya away!!
Early morning and late afternoon are the best times, like just about anywhere else, but there's enough interesting rock formations you can shoot fairly close so that you can get interesting things any time of the day.
You'll love it, but you won't get even a good overview in just a day.  It's not all the same and there's lots of territory.
Have fun!!!

LV,

I started a thread a few months ago when, like you, I was planning to go to VOF. I was there for two days in September and will probably go back for a day or two in February. You can see a couple of pix from September here (http://home.earthlink.net/~jdavidlevy/_wsn/page33.html).

The park is especially nice in the late afternoon. It was really hot in September (you live there so you know) so I am looking forward to spending some time there during a cooler February day.

It is a big enough park with several nice trails/walks that you can easily spend several days there. The good news is that it is just over an hour away from Las Vegas. The rock formations are just delightful. The park roads will take you anywhere you need to go.

Have fun.

I live in Las Vegas, have a new Minolta A2 to play with, and have time on my hands. I'm interested in spending a day shooting at the valley of fire.

I've never been and have no idea what's there. I'm a hiker mountain climber type. Is it smart to to there alone? Any suggestions on where to shoot/times of day etc?

Don't forget Red Rock Canyon to the south of you, too.  Good day triip, easy access.
