Did the upgrade to Aperture 3 from a legal Aperture 2 to a legal Aperture 3.
Aperture 3 looks promising and I love the addition of video so I was full of high hopes.
However they are getting lower and lower at the moment.
Importing was no problem, app 14 hours for a huge library on a 8 core macpro.
But now I see the beachbal more than ever, and I have to force quit Aperture 3 sometimes because it hangs.
Also booting it is a big problem, most of the times I have to start 3-4 times and force quit and start again before it boots.
I already removed the license file and typed in my two licenses, after which it booted at once for two times, but after a reboot of the mac it was back to boot, quit, boot, quit, boot, quit, boot ah there it is.
Anyone any idea ?
It's the most unstable piece of software I ever had on my mac, even worse than my windows
One small tip for video.
Use the additional Quicktime pack from apple, or save it from your leopard timemachine, or from the FCP installation discs.
That way you can import much more files, in fact it now shows almost everything except the streams from my HF11 camera (hope they support that sometime in the future).
So overal I love Aperture 3.
But I hate the instability, hope it's a problem on my side, or they fix it VERY quickly.

This might help:

If you have enabled the 'faces" feature on Aperture 3 with such a large photo library, it may be trying to recognize every face in your library. There is also a documented "memory leak" problem with Aperture 3.

Additionally there is already an update that addresses the playback of video clips in slide show presentations.

@theodore,
will try that tomorrow morning, because this is driving me nuts.
Faces is already off, didn't work for me anyway.

@Theodore,
it seems that did the trick.
It's still showing the beachbal too much for my liking but no crashes yet.

Frank - good to hear. I did that for my 8-Core MP as well (I have an early 2008 with 12GB of RAM) and it seems to be working fine. Libraries are on an external Drobo. My Aperture 2 files weren't that large because I had been using LR / LR2 for the past few years. I will be migrating files over. It feels like they rushed the final out the door a bit, but I really, really like this program. I'm creating several libraries because while Apple says that Aperture can handle super large libraries, organizationally it makes sense for me to do some splitting up.
