Title: Old Old lens
Post by: KevinA on January 11, 2010, 10:24:53 am
I have just converted an old "made in India" LF field camera to take 5x7 DDS, I bought an old brass lens from Ebay, the lens dates back to the late 1800's. I had doubts it would cover 5x7,
I shot some tests with FP4 and had to stop the lens all the way as the lens does not have a shutter. So counting a few pink elephants is more accurate than trying to guess a 1/4 of a second. ND's have since been added
As yet i have not scanned or printed the negatives, but ouch they look sharp corner to corner. I have a fair bit of "L" glass that can't do that. I am very impressed with this uncoated lens, especially as I was shooting snow into the light. I am now looking out for more old lenses, not only do they look gorgeous they actually work very well.

Kevin.

Do please post a sample or two once you've had a chance to scan some. It sounds like a fun lens.
