Poor girl. She appears to be in great distress.

Russ, in today's economy, wouldn't you be?

I'm even thinking of getting my old Ford done up. I watched the music video below and, from it, linked up to another one showing the rebuild of a '58 Plymouth called Christine.  Have a love affair in my mind for American cars of those years and can't imagine why the designs ever mutated to the blancmange shapes that they have today. There was no need to stay with huge bulk or engine, it's the shape of the things that is so fascinating; downsizing to scale would have kept an unmistakable national look. And to think that Chrysler produced that awful P-something faux-retro effort some years ago. More like an old UK taxi than any US car I can think of...

To think of what Cadillacs and Imperials used to look like.

Ear your heart out Rob.

This was the company car for my Hollywood based business in the 80's.  Young Adrian from London liked to borrow it to take visiting Birds for spins through Tinsel Town.  Adrian basically immigrated to own a Mopar.  The glove compartment was filled with a selection of tasteful jeweled sunglasses, and the original ladies cosmetic kit that came with the car was still available for special occasions.

I hope you never let it go, but from the way it sounds I guess you did...

Looking through a lot of Long Black Limousine videos I came across one with, I think, the same car in black. Wow. But pink would do, hairdresser jibes notwithstanding - I'd take the risk!

Wet dreams indeed.

One could sense the effects of the Sophia-sized rear end when going around corners, but the fins added considerable stability at speeds over 140mph.  Jerry Lee made the pink OK, no hairdresser jokes at all.  Don't know where it is today.  The good times do not roll forever.

Ain't that the truth!

Thanks for the dream anyway, Bill.

Bill

As a result of your Caddy shot and the Christine '57 Plymouth rebuild video, I went to see my local bodyshop today. To get my Ford knocked back into as-new and with a full respray would cost me about 2300 - 2500 Euros. Considering the alloys are not kerbed, the tyres only a year old, the engine has only done about 60k miles, that the interior is immaculate, it seems crazy spending a lot more to replace the old thing with something smaller and more kitten-like in its approach to eating up the miles. As I don't do many of them anymore either, a small car with matching rubber band engine isn't going to change the running costs much...

I think I shall accept the offer and see if I can create a classic; I am one already, it seems, so I might as well have a set of wheels to match, I suppose...

Wonderful place, the internet; never a dull moment nor a stable idea for very long!

Happy New Year
