Title: FS: Hy6 body
Post by: StuartR on November 15, 2009, 06:48:02 am
The time has come to start to sell off my Hy6/Rollei kit. I recently sold the digital back, and since the Hy6 cannot shoot 6x6 film (yet? Sinar is still in talks with the F&H creditors, but I wouldn't hold your breath waiting for the 6x6 back), and I have my eyes on an X5 for the lab, I would like to sell it. It is a fabulous camera, but just not serving my needs right now. I have a 203FE kit which sees most of the work I do with an MF slr.

The Hy6 was bought new in August or September of 2008. I bought it from Calumet, along with my digital back. It has had fairly low use since then, so it is still in near mint condition. It works brilliantly with digital backs (it will mount either the Sinar backs or Leaf AFi backs. It will also shoot 645 film using an adapter and the 4560 film back. This back pops in and out in a matter of seconds, so you can change orientation very quickly while still using the WLF.
The viewfinder in the camera is fantastic -- it as bright and clear as that in the 203FE, which is otherwise the best I have seen. It is better in the sense that the shooting information is more extensive and easily readable with or without the magnifier. The Hy6 is a very advanced electronic camera -- I don't have time to list all the features, but the highlights for me would be the multiple metering abilities (spot, center and multi-segment, independent of a finder), extremely well damped and quiet mirror (for medium format), excellent handgrip and ergonomics, fast film advance, small size and weight, very long-life lithium video cam battery, nice hand strap, large shooting information display on the grip, good autofocus with focus confirm for all manual lenses, up to 1/1000th sync speed with PQS lenses, and easily updatable camera firmware (via USB).

Perhaps most importantly, it also has access to a large number of Schneider and Zeiss optics, and is the most advanced camera on which to shoot these lenses. The Schneiders are fantastic, and not available on any other camera, but you still get some of the best Zeiss designs like the 110/2 Planar.

Ok, so enough chatter. I am asking 3500 USD. It costs at least 5000 new, body only, and that is if you can find one. Most dealers do not sell the camera apart from a digital back system. B&H sells it with the 4560 back for 7900 USD. Ouch. I am selling mine for less than half of that. If you are a Rollei shooter and did not want to get the Hy6 because of the price, this is a good chance to get one for a more reasonable outlay. Here are some pictures, please note, the body only is on offer. If you buy the body, and are interested in lenses as well, you will get first chance. Once the body sells, then I will start listing the lenses separately.

The camera (and I) is located in Iceland. I have the boxes and original packaging in the US. I can sell you the camera and then ship you the boxes when I visit the family over Christmas. The shipping cost from Iceland will likely be about 40 dollars via express airmail (6-12 days to the US, with tracking), or a lot more via UPS, FedEx or DHL (probably around 100-250 USD). I ask that the buyer pays shipping and paypal fees. If they don't want to pay paypal fees, they can use the service payment option, which does not offer buyer protection. I am not the most frequent poster around here, but I post a lot at GetDPI, and used to be very active on rangefinder forum, photo.net and several other sites. There are many in the online photo community who will vouch that I am not going to scam you. I could provide references if you like. I also have 100% feedback on ebay under the name Vladsirin.

I will also be selling a number of lenses and accessories for the system too, so if you buy this, you will have first crack at anything else. I will post the lenses and accessories in a separate thread once the body sells. Two accessories that would be most interesting to the buyer of the camera might be the 4560 film back and magazine adapter, and the Hy6 adapter for eMotion digital backs (non-rotating). Please do not PM me fishing for accessories or lenses until I post a thread about them...I will not sell them until the body is sold.

Sorry for the long-windedness, this kind of equipment deserves some effort into describing it.

I can vouch for Stuart - he sold his back to a friend of mine, and that arrived safely.
