Title: Paris anyone
Post by: wuffstuff on September 07, 2009, 03:52:10 am
We have a weekend booked for a trip to Paris for the horse racing at Longchamps in early October. That should provide excellent photo opportunities.

If anyone has any ideas on where else we might visit - off the tourist routes, perhaps a bit quirky and different - that would be much appreciated.

Thanks in anticipation.

First, I'll probably be there for christmas and hope I'll be able to see the surrealist photo exhibition at Beaubourg (http://&quot;%20<a%20href="http://www.centrepompidou.fr/Pompidou/Manifs.nsf/0/6C44A42D3D8F05E4C12575CC0033082B?OpenDocument&sessionM=2.1.2&L=2&form=Actualite&quot;"%20target="_blank">http://www.centrepompidou.fr/Pompidou/Mani...Actualite&quot;</a>).

Second, I really like many places around Beaubourg and the center of town : Seine banks, Ile de la Cité, Marais (4e arrondissement), Quartier Latin (5e-6e with some hints like the Arenes de Lutece)... But of course, there is much much more to see!

Just walk around, there's so much to see and photograph!

I like La Defense, it's the most modern place in Paris, very different from the old Paris. One of the less photographed touristy places is The Catacombs - very macabre, but significant historically.

If you're in France for longer than a weekend, the chateaux in Loire valley are stunning, but you need at least a day and a rental car for that.

I would definitely check out Montmartre and the surrounding cathedrals and artist squares. There are a lot of antique shops around there too. The area will be fairly packed out with people at all times but it's really beautiful and there's lots to see and loads of gorgeous bistros.

Well thanks to those who responded.

My M9 and I will have a wander to those areas you've kindly mentioned.
