Title: Anyone around Moab who can help clean my sensor
Post by: sanfairyanne on July 04, 2009, 11:50:52 am
I'm on vacation from the U.K and I'm in Moab. Yesterday I tried to clean off some dust from my sensor using a special brush that statically attracts the dust. Unfortunately I appear to have brushed up against some oil whilst doing this and now have an oil smear on the sensor.
I've ordered a kit from a company called Copper Hill Images, I even sent them an image showing the smear and they confirmed it is an oil smear.

The sensor cleaning kit isn't due to arrive until the 10th, even though it's been UPS'd, I guess July 4th stops everything.

Is there anyone in the Moab area who could help out, I'd be very grateful.

I can be e-mailed at andywaddington99@yahoo.com

Many Thanks

Don't know what's available in Moab, but the Copperhill method goes back a long way.  If you can source Pec pads and Eclipse fluid more quickly than Jul 10, you can do a home made version.  see http://www.pbase.com/copperhill/ccd_cleaning (http://www.pbase.com/copperhill/ccd_cleaning) for details...  I've had that same issue when I accidentally brushed the Visible Dust brush against the chamber of a 1d3 and it transferred some of the goop from the chamber (which catches the dust vibrated off the sensor during a cleaning cycle) to the sensor.  A cut down small rubber spatula, pec pad, rubber band and a couple of drops of Eclipse did the job - but patience and care is required.
