I am an aspiring wildlife filmmaker, and as I am considering purchasing a camera to improve my reel, I have been looking at a lot of test videos from the 5d mkii. I noticed that all of the videos seemed to be a bit dark, and have a slightly high-contrast look. Is this due to the current lack of these manual controls? I can't wait to see some footage after the update is released.

Would those of you familiar with the 5DII expect a histogram to be displayed while adjusting manaul exposure in video mode?  Is there some way of evaluating exposure other than the simple viewfinder image, like for instance flashing clipped areas or such?

Jonathan, in terms of the look, there is a lot of flexibility. You can use any of the preset Picture Styles, which are themselves highly customizable as to saturation, contrast, sharpness, etc., etc. You can also make your own.
I think any "look" which you have noticed is due to the fact that most of what's out there are test videos using the camera at default settings.

IMO.

Now I may actually buy one. The thought of such a potentially good capture device being a P+S video camera with no real manual controls I knew would frustrate me no end, so I easily managed to resist buying one. Shame I just spend a not so small fortune on other kit.
I was waiting for firmware to be hacked like had been done with Canon's pocket cameras. I really didn't expect Canon to do it in themselves. Unless it had been hacked and Canon simply made it official.

Mike, this is one seriously awesome movie, absolutely stunning. The Kiwi's have a movie called Shadowland of scenery around Fiordland...I never thought I'd see something to match it. This does better, it beats it.

Are you planning on marketing copies of this?

Cheers
Brian

BTW, forget Lara Bingle...tourism Australia should get in touch with you!!
