Title: New MacPro, Nec3090, Epson 7800, Photoshop CS4 .... where do I begin?

After agonizing a long time, I have a new system. Now, how do I accurately calibrate my monitor to my Epson 7800?

I purchased the NEC monitor calibration hardware when I bought the monitor. I have since calibrated my monitor with it. I am not going to buy a Huey, or anything similar. So I guess that I need to go online and find a company that offers a downloadable test print. After downloading, I need to print it and send it to the company. They will in turn (for money) send me a profile for my printer.

All that said and done, how do I set my print settings in Photoshop. I seem to remember reading that I turn off "Color Management" on my PS4 print panel. Is this it? Or is there more?

You don't "calibrate" a display to a specific printer. Its output (printer) agnostic. And I sure hope you got the NEC software and a supported instrument and not trying to use the huey. That said, the target calibration for luminance and white point are based on how you'll view the prints next to the display. Then you need good output profiles for the 7800, using Epson papers, they were installed for you with the Epson driver.

Or use the great Bill Atkinson profiles for the 7800. Bill leaves them on his mac.com server iDisk.

You'll want to calibrate your monitor with the colorimeter supplied with NEC software.

You might want to ask who ever builds your custom paper printer profiles to supply you with a reference print. Otherwise I think there are some names come to mind like Neil Barstow, Color (colour?) Confidence both sell ref prints. Yet anyone that can make you good print profiles obviously can print a standard print like Bill Atkinson's or Andrew has his own too that will match their screen for which you can rely on.

To the op. Trying to get a little more info to help you. Per your question regarding color management "Is their something else"?
Is this your first setup or have you been printing with other pro level equipment?  Confused me abit as your questions just did not match the level of equipment you have.

Ps. You may have better luck printing from Photoshop then I did. The minute I installed Lightroom, it is all I use. It is that good! YMMV.
