Title: z3100 star wheel replacement problem
Post by: greeniguana on March 15, 2009, 06:26:44 pm
The star wheel assembly was replaced on my z3100. There is back and forth (not up and down) play of over 1/8" on the left side of the assembly (when looking at the front of the printer.) There is not the same play on the right near the print head home.

Is this normal for the upgrade?  It does not seem correct.  Can some one confrim this on their printer?

Thanks!

There should be no play other than up and down.

I have done the replacement myself. Correctly done there's an equal height adjustment at both sides. Lift the bar itself at one side with two fingers and pul the adjuster at that side outwards, do the same at the other side. The bar will be raised to its maximum at both sides. Pulling the adjusters out without lifting the bar is difficult, especially at the right side.

If the two screws are not tightened correctly the bar may turn on the screws, the front side is then raised and the back side lowered. That doesn't give more play for the paper running underneath. There's a kind of raising guidance underneath the screws, small pieces of forged steel with springs that should prevent that tilt backwards but the bar should be fixed correctly to get the effect.

Did the replacement of the wheel assembly fix the "star wheel" tracks on print issue for you folks?
Thanks!

99% of them for me.  I still have a problem with the first 4 inches of the end of a roll of Illford GG, but that's it.
