Does the highway ruin this?  Was there anything to ruin?

The highway is fine. After looking at your photo for 2-3 minutes, my eyes are not attracted by it. The haze tend to  make it less obvious.

Agree with francois, the highway doesn't distract.

On the other hand I would either darken the sky a bit or crop more from the top.

It's not an awfully interesting scene, really, is it? Perhaps if I'd been there, with the breeze moving the stalks and making them rustle, I'd feel differently. Sorry.

Depends on if you like grasslands or not.  But that does answer the question.
