Title: Video on any Canon camera with live view?
Post by: lisa_r on January 26, 2009, 09:08:58 am
Looks like someone hacked his 40d to shoot video from the live view output. It can be done either tethered or not. It apparently works on some other cameras too.

Here's a video recorded on the 40D:

I wondered how long that would take as shooting video or not is a firmware decision, not a hardware limitation.
Though as it only works tethered, not the most elegant of setups.
What I'm more interested in in a 5DII hack to allow manual control.
There have been hacks for Canon P+S for many years to allow one to shoot RAW or have more controls/features

What would be really good is to hack the D3 (or a canon) to shoot stills at 1k at 25FPS, the nikon does 13FPS on  jpg small which is  2k quality - same data rate - full manual control shutter and ISO

then would have raw and no silly compression issues

Apparently they now have the 40d shooting video without the need for tethering...and the image quality looks very good.
