Glad I didn't get arrested for taking this one!
Pentax k10d
FA* 300, tripod from roof of car (eaten alive by insanely aggressive tiger mosquitoes)
stitched mosaic, 6 or so frames

Enjoy!

Why should you get arrested John?
Dave.

Trespassing. I'm not 100% sure that the road from where I took the shots was public.

Uh, yeah. That and the absolutely batsh*t crazy paranoia about "terrorists" in the United States since 9/11. This seems to have empowered local police officers and private security guards nationwide to hassle anyone taking pictures of any sort of industrial subject.

Saw this image on Pentax forums. Very well done. I always thought I would take photos from the roof of my car, but that sure would bring attention upon me.

Hi John,
very interesting shot... was there a particular reason why you didn't shot the panorama wider? I think it would have had benefitted the comp to have a bit more on the left and right... also, did you do a b/w-sepia treatment on it, or is this the remnants of the sodium lights.... and my last question, since I was also contemplating abusing the roof of a car: did you jack up the car to prevent wobbling or did you just climbed up and shot it?
nice work.

Definitely jacked up. I couldn't afford the wobble, especially since I spent half of my time swatting tiger mosquitoes. Actually, the original shot was quite a bit wider, but power lines interfered with much of the rest of the finished picture. Pity, since the part of the plant to the right of where I cropped is pretty cool. The color isn't sepia per se, although it sort of looks like it (notice the red light on the column to the right). I just played around with HSL sliders, WB, camera profiles, and I forget what else in ACR.
Thanks for the comments!

Yeah, I thought so :-)

What I sometimes do in those situations are pickup shots from 2-5m left or right from the original place... that way you get a nice parallax overlap for the powerlines (aka a different viewpoint), and you can remove them due to overlap.
