Hi Folks:
The latest e-newsletter from Hasselblad has announced the competition for the 2009 Hasselblad Masters. This year there's a category for working pros who use any medium or large format camera - not just Hasselblad. If you're looking for more information, etc. try here: 2009 Hasselblad Masters (http://www.hasselblad.com/member/masters-2009.aspx)
The closing date for submissions is April 1st 2009.
Mike.

There's also an up and coming category which is open to any format. I entered last year and I will
again this year.

If I remember correctly the deadline for submissions under the 'Up & coming' category closed on Dec 21st, 2008.
Unless the extension also includes this section. Can someone verify this

"Images may be considered for multiple categories. Entrants in the “Up and Coming” category are not eligible for any other category. Entries must be uploaded by 5 p.m. Central European Time on January 1, 2009."
from when you register to the Up and coming category on the link above.

I can highly recommend entering the Hasselblad Masters Award. It is a brilliant idea, for both Hasselblad and the entrants. I works as a good marketing tool, connects you to other photographers around the world and gives a great project to work on- not to mention getting to work with fantastic equipment. The book that was produced was of excellent quality, the print quality was outstanding and I really liked the book design. I think Hasselblad made the right choice in "hooking up" with a well know publisher.
Good luck to those that enter

I thought the closing date was today for all categories, perhaps I ought to read the rules again.

you might well be right there, but it doesn't take long to do it online

Does anyone know if the Hasselblad Masters closes April 1st at Midnight or sometime before? I'm assuming it's midnight Europe.
Thanks,
Weldon

Is it only for pros? no any medium format user [Hasselblad for example] even non pro can enter?

No problem, next year we will try, but my question is: can any non pro join and enter? or it is only for pro photographers?

Yes any non pro can enter under the, 'up and coming' category.

Yes any non pro can enter under the, 'up and coming' category.
If I remember correctly it was also open to any pro with under 5 years experience or something along those lines.

I have read that even for "Up and coming" you must be a professional for at least 1 year experience, if someone is not professional at all, then he is not eligible? i can't read where it is written that "Up&Coming" is opened for all, pro and non pro.
We saw the results anyway, and as i expected, all are professionals, non is non pro, dunno if one of them is semi-pro.
-
How do you prove that you are a "pro" ?

I am not a pro at all, so that mean i can't enter this
-
Can you be an unemployed pro and enter?

Can you be an unemployed pro and enter?
I will be so grateful to you if you tell me how to do that, anything just to be called a pro so i can enter.

A Pro is someone who makes over 50% of his/her income from photography.
It means that if your total annual income is $5,000 and $2,600 comes from photography you are a Pro.
On the other hand if you make annually $500,000 from photography but your total personal income is over a million you are still an amateur.
My advice is to enter regardless.
Andre

What about if i earn about 10% of my annual income from Photography? say if i earn total annual income about $50,000 and my photography income is about $5,000, i am not a pro, or at least semi-pro or even an advanced photographer?
So next year i will enter regardless, and i will make sure next year i will have better photos with my MF.
-
If being a Pro is so important to you and assuming that you can not yet raise more income from photography you can always lower your other income to meet the 50+% requirements. Should not be that difficult in today's economy
Andre
BTW to me you are a pro if you looks like it was done by a pro.

In fact i am paid to shoot sports here in my area, but this payment is not so much, also got money from competitions, and soon i may start to give workshops so then i will get paid as well, but in all cases here i can't get more income in photography because people don't pay much here, and i don't want to lower my current job income to reach that 40-50+ income in photography, just i will work hard this year and later on to rise my photography income, but if this will take long time to do then i will missing this Hasselblad Master for years, i talked with someone who is working in Hasselblad company and told him, can't they just open part of the competition for all? there are some non-pro can get amazing and great results better than some pros, he said yeah true, but didn't say anything more, look like he may agree about that but he doesn't want to do it.
