Title: Copenhagen by night
Post by: Alexandre Buisse on December 15, 2008, 05:43:58 pm
Hi,

I'm pretty new here, though I've been reading LL for quite some time, and I thought I would take a chance in the user critiques.

This is one of my last shots, taken after dusk in Copenhagen, where I now live. I really liked the light, and though it has some really nice colours, I think it works better in monochrome. Any comments very welcome!

I think I can see the look you're going for, but in my opinion there's too much negative space - pure black.  If you could find some detail in those spaces, even if you have to tone down the contrast a bit, it might work out better.

My $0.02

Mike.

Hi,

I don't think that the negative space is too much here, I would even argue that it lacks negative space (water and sky).
But What I am wondering more about is the horizon... it's smack in the middle, and that makes the composition a bit boring, it's lacking tension, and I feel like that there is too much going on, maybe it's the ducks in the foreground. I also have a feeling that it is slightly out of focus, either you overshot infinity by a hair, or it's motion blur/camera shake, can't tell.

otherwise, I think the processing is not bad.

good luck
