Title: Epson 3800 max print size 17x38?
Post by: stever on December 09, 2008, 03:40:09 pm
my old 2200 appears to be near death

i haven't considered the 3800 as a replacement because the specs say 17x22 max print

however i was told by a salesman today that it will print 22x38 which would be fine for anything i can reasonably forsee

is this true

I don't think 22 x 38.  The parameters would be the width of the printing area--which is 17 plus the printing length allowed which you can extend to 38.5 I think.  I've done some panos that are about 38--from roll paper which I cut.  Works just fine.  I also print 16 x 24 all the time (17 x 25 paper which is available from several sources or again cut from roll).

Full bleed works up to 17x22. Single sheets of 17x25 can print with just a small border. You can print up to 17x37'ish with just a small border all around as well, maybe 1/8 inch.

3800 makes beautiful prints and is at a very good price right now. It has full ink reporting/diagnostics. You can see how much ink is used for each print. Easy MK/PK switching internally.

You need to be running a RIP to go beyond the threshold of Epson'r print driver, but yes, you can go beyond 25".  How far I'm not sure, but now is a great time to buy.  I got mine for $1145 from Amazon, plus you can opt for free shipping (big savings for me out here in Hawaii).  And Epson extended the $200 rebate to all editions of the 3800.

i wasn't sure if the rebate is applicable to Amazon since they don't seem to be on the list of "authorized professional imaging resellers"?

I saw that after I had already purchased it, but I'm going to try anyway.  If not, I still got a good price, so no complaints here.

ordered from Atlex, they have free shipping in continental US which made them a few bucks cheaper than B&H for me in california - and their paper and ink pricing is better is better as well (haven't yet found anyone with better paper and ink pricing)
