You really got those highlights under control here. Very nice - looks almost like you used light coming from a window or skylight.

Congratulations!

One of the problems with being a grandfather happens to you when you realise that your seventeen year-old grand-daughter makes the perfect model but one which you can never use... an object lesson in irony, if anyone needs one.

This picture has a lovely feel to it. To my mind it probably does not need the soft focus effect. Babies usually have lovely smooth skin and it is not necessary to soften the image any more. The shallow depth of field you have will sort out any distractions in the background anyway.
I think it would be better if it were a bit lighter, which would make it really glow! Just nit-picking, but it would have been improved if the nearest eye
was the one that was really in focus. But as I say, overall it has a lovely feel.

Thanks for the comments. Luckily I shot a few, here is one with the near eye in focus and soft effect removed

Don´t be too happy too soon! Somebody is sure to tell you that it would have been better if the child´s arm hadn´t shown etc. etc. Just do what pleases you and the hell with anybody else´s ideas - unless they are clients, of course!

PS Good-looking kid.

Yes, for me the new picture is better. I do agree with Rob about pleasing yourself or your customer. However as this is the forum for user critiques, I suppose everyone is looking for opinions!

Amazing, I never even noticed his arm lol, thanks for the replies, all comments are both useful and welcome

Apart from a good-looking family, also in your favour is that you don´t take offence. Good luck to you!

I like the softer focus of the first one but I like the secondone for having his arm in the shot - it gives a depth to the picture.
Very nice either way.

No point taking offence, comments by other people is the best way to learn
