A couple years ago there was a fire in the Hollywood hills spreading down the SF valley, and standing on the Seal Beach pier, it looked like a giant mushroom cloud from an atomic war. Seal Beach is about 35 miles away, so it gives you an idea just how big those fires can get.

There was an article in the local paper recently about the fires, along with an image showing a river of molten aluminum from a car engine block. That's hot enough...

As with the horrors of the Southern States hurricane experience, my sympathy to those of you whose lives are being threatened by this latest in a cycle of terrible natural (one dreads to think man-made) happenings.
