Title: Updated Images: Paria Plateau/Trona
Post by: mitchdob on November 11, 2008, 12:48:18 am
All, I updated my website with some new images, shot on a venture into Arizona (the week before last).
Also on the site is a new Trona image (shot at the beginning of October).

The new images are off the RECENT link.... of the first 10 images, 5 are brand new.
The newer images are labeled Paria Plateau, Glen Canyon and/or Trona (2008).

Images can be found on http://www.mitchdobrowner.com (http://www.mitchdobrowner.com)

I always get great feedback from LL, so please have at it.
Thanks for the help ahead of time.   - Mitch

Hello Mitch,

Thank you for posting your new work. I saw some of it last year, and I love you you keep your dramatic style so consistent. I hope I will have a chance to see one of your works in person, since I missed the Hasted Hunt show.

(The only tiny thing I would change on your website is an additional navigation to get from image to image. maybe a simple click on the large image would get the user to the next one. right now the user has to click on the tiny arrow and then on the thumbnail, which works, but could be easier.)

Best of luck, I hope we'll meet one day when you are in NYC.

Hi Mitch,

They are breathtaking, as usual.

Don't change a thing!

Looking at your website makes me want to give up color completely. I felt the same way recently on seeing a retrospective exhibit of Paul Caponigro's traditional gelatin-silver prints.

Beautiful work. Thanks for sharing.

Eric

Stunning, visually distinctive images in a well presented website, Mitch.  You have much to be proud of here.
Joergen- I discovered that you can navigate image to image with the arrow keys.

Lovely work.

But how does the site navigation work?  I shift through the thumbnails and then click one to view.  Is there another way?

I haven't found another way to navigate,I thought that I missed something but obviously I'm not alone.

Mitch,
Thanks again for the update! I had the pleasure to visit galleries where some of your photos were on display and I found them absolutely fantastic.

[attachment=9667:Mitch_Do...triptych.jpg]Francois/DarkPenguin.... yes that is currently the way to navigate the website.
Someday I'll get to v2 of the website navigation. I know its not perfect (by any means) right now.

I also appreciate all the great feedback.
Also, feel free to give constructive criticism as its always helpful (ie: images you like, the ones you don't - and why).

I also just uploaded a image/triptych I added to the website yesterday for comments.

Thanks again. - Mitch

That's neat! That's much better than clicking the "next" arrow and then clicking the thumbnail.

Mitch: The new Shiprock trilogy is fantastic!

Mitch,
Breathtaking! Shiprock Storm was already one of my favourite but your triptych really adds strong points - a sense of motion I would say . Shiprock (Tsé Bit'a'í) has always produced a powerful impact on me.

Hi Mitch

Every now and then I see a photographers work and I think "why do I even bother"!  Your Recent pictures really blew
me away.  I have always loved monochrome, even though digital has lured me into more colour work.

Wonderful pictures.  Some of them had the look of a Lunar landscape.  Many of them appear to be IR.  Is that the case, or
did you just create the look digitally?

Jim

Hi Jim, I shoot a combo of either straight B&W and/or IR based on the time of day, lighting and weather conditions.
I capture the images latent. In PS I do as little as possible - or what I'd normally do in the wet darkroom (brightness, contrast, some dodging and burning).

Eric, that's for the compliment.
Kumar, thank you too!! That's something I never realized until now.  - Mitch

Ooooh!!! The new LensWork just arrived, with another great portfolio from Mitch! Most of these (or maybe all) are also on his website, but it's nice to have them on paper, too. One drawback to the Lenswork spread: there is only one of the Shiprock pictures, not the whole trilogy.

And LensWork is now offering archival inkjet portfolios of prints by Mitch (B&W of course) as well as Brooks Jensen (also B&W) and Huntington Witherill (color!) at very reasonable prices. Mitch's is a set of ten images, each about 7x9" on 8 x 10.5" paper, at an introductory price (through February) of $95 plus S&H, $125 starting March 1. I just ordered Mitch's.

Congratulations, Mitch!

Eric amd Michael... thanks for the kind words. I'm count myself lucky to have been published again (I'm just a peon).
And Eric, thank you for the folio purchase. Its very much appreciated.
Also Note: the Paria Plateau, Trona and Glen Canyon images are all new, shot in late Oct/early Nov - since LensWork choose the images for the current edition.

Mitch,

The LensWork folio arrived today, and I am quite blown away by it. The prints are stunning, even compared with the excellent LensWork magazine reproductions and even the images on your website. My copy of the folio is #53, so I hope that means thay are selling a lot of them.

I am delighted to have them in my collection (along with E. Weston, A. Adams. P. Caponigro, M. White, and a few others.)

Everybody else: If you would like a very inexpensive folio of excellent black-and-white inkjet prints to judge your own printing by, I urge you to buy Mitch's LensWork folio right away. Go to LensWork (http://www.lenswork.com/) and click on "Special Editions."

(Full disclosure: I have no connection with LensWork, except that I have subscribed for several years, and I dream of being published by them some day.       )

I need to re-up lenswork and was going to pickup some Brooks Jensen prints at the same time so I'll take a look.  Thanks!

They also have folios by Brooks (11 images)  and by Huntington Witherill (15 images) for about $10 per print until the price goes up (January 1 for Brooks, March 1 for Mitch or Huntington). Go for them now, while they're really cheap.

I'll probably keep one of Mitch's near my PC and printer for inspiration and as an example of what a good print should look like. I must say the Harman FB AL paper is the nicest looking glossy paper I've seen yet. I'm going to get some and see how my elderly Epson 2200 does on it.

Eric... thank you (again). And yes, Brooks Jensen has done a wonderful job with the folio. I'm also happy w/ the  Harman Glossy FB AL paper he chose. I'm not a big fan of "glossy" papers, but was thrilled when I saw the first AP.

I just count myself very, very lucky to have been chosen by Brooks for his re-introduction of the folios.  - Mitch
