I am interested in incorporating some of my stills into movies.
I am after software that can pan and zoom into/across STILL images
(I have tried Istop motion and cant import to dragon)
this may be a trivial task in one of the upmarket softwares like FCP/E - but none of them are avaialable as trials !
I have got QT Pro which imports sets of stills fine but agaoin no pan or zoom
TIA

After Effects or Final Cut are 10,000 lb. elephants for this task. For $50, I recommend Photo To Movie (http://www.lqgraphics.com/software/phototomovie.php)
(Michael actually reviewed (http://www.luminous-landscape.com/reviews/software/photo2movie.shtml) this software positively about 3 years ago - and it has improved since then...)

quicker than doing 25 different crops for one second of footage !

Oh and BTW - Mac users should not overlook what can be done in iLife/iPhoto/iMovie

The absolutely free Windows MovieMaker can do some basic kinestasis moves. It either comes with Windows or you can download it from microsoft.com. The latest versions work well with HD and the output quality is excellent.

A couple of weeks on
Photo to Movie seems best for this function alone
I am using FCP too but the 'motion' while possible to use seems quite hard to control - it also has slide change transition
I am on a mac BTW

While After Effects is overkill for this one use, it is a very powerful tool. I use it a lot and really love it. I can't remember the last project I completed without using After Effects in some capacity. I know I'm late to this topic. I just wanted to register my opinion of AE.

Google with 'Ken Burns' if you are after this effect to find more info as 'Ken Burns movement' is what you described needing.
