Title: R2880 Printer Profiling
Post by: dmward on September 26, 2008, 09:47:05 pm
I am being frustrated by an inability to build a useful profile for my new R2880.
I have exchanged email with Datacolor and they have been helpful, reviewing the XML files read by the spectrometer.

All that said, I seem to be getting a consistant, printed two targets and read several times.

The result has been profiles are consistant, and off. Sample prints look almost identical but are off color, both compared to calibrated monitor image and print using standard Epson profile for luster paper. (I am profiling for Calumet Brilliant Lustre.)

Has anyone successfully profiled Brilliant Lustre on the R2880 using Spyder3Print?

I have not tried that paper or printer, but have been creating profiles for my Canon iPF5000 for over a year now with Spyder3 Print.

The critical point in creating accurate profiles is insuring that your are using the exact settings in the printer driver for both printing the patch targets and final prints. The color management should be turned off in the printer driver and your media setting should match the type of paper being used.

My other thought is that it may just be the paper and printer combo. I found another review of the paper here:  http://blog.quantum-capture.co.uk/2008/03/...s-calumets-own/ (http://blog.quantum-capture.co.uk/2008/03/brilliant-museum-fine-art-papers-calumets-own/)

Thanks Jerry,
I got a reply from DataColor, who have been very helpful with this.  They noticed that I had a setting wrong in the Leopard printer driver. That impacts how the target is printed. I reprinted the target this evening making sure that I had the settings as suggested.

The target looks like it was described by DataColor. I am going to read it tomorrow sometime and hopefully that will provide the result for which I am hoping.

BTW, the paper in the review is another Calumet product, which I also use. I happen to like the SilverGloss White I had it profiled for my 2200 and also QuadTone RIP.
