Title: Text Records of offline Hard Discs

Hi

Im on an OSx mac - and also on PCs

I am looking for an application that can index the file names and directory structure of hard discs that are subsequently taken offline (chucked in a cupboard)

I name all my files to include the date eg 120408

So what I want to do is ask the app find files whose name includes 120408 (or whatever)

And the answer would be disc22/apr08 etc

Obviously and index of thumbnails from many raw formats, index of IPTC etc would be a bonus

Although I haven't used the last versions, I believe that iView Media Pro might be what you're looking for. The application has been purchased by Microsoft and renamed Expresion Media. A trial version is available so you can test before you buy.

Morgan have a look at my app http://www.rap.net.au/?p=12 (http://www.rap.net.au/?p=12) theCataloguer creates a txt file that you can open in TextEdit and do searches on. It only works by pointing it to the root of a drive and catalogues the first directory level. I did it this way because it suits my workflow I may be convinced to play with that if you need. FoldertoList might also work for you.

I would add that iView seems to offer too many features for your needs but your last sentence <Obviously and index of thumbnails from many raw formats, index of IPTC etc would be a bonus> makes me think that iView might be interesting. By the way, iView is cross-platform.
Rick's application or even a simple shell script will do the basic, ie produce a searchable text file.

Thanks for suggestions will try Iview and look at those apps

One thing about the content of theses disks is that being an archive/backcatalogue they wont change
